Chris Marker (natural July 29, 1921) is a writer, photographer, film director and documentary maker. He was innate Christian Bouche-Villeneuve, around Paris, France. He is better known for directing La Jetée (1963) and Sans Soleil (1982).
Chris Marker exposed philosophy under Jean-Paul Sartre. Within World War II he joined the Résistance. Fallowing a war he began to write & produce films. He traveled to several socialist countries & documented what he saw inside films and books. Les statues meurent aussi (1953) which he codirected sustaining Alain Resnais was one of the foremost anticolonial films.
He became internationally known for the short film La Jetée. It tells the story of a post-nuclear war experiment in time pass applying the series of filmed exposure developed as a photo-montage of varying pace sustaining limited narration. This film was a inspiration for Terry Gilliam's Twelve Monkeys (1995).
Within 1982 he finished Sans Soleil, stretching the restricts of what can be known as the documentary. These are an essay, a montage, mixing pieces of documentary film by having fiction and philosophical comments, creating an atmosphere of dream and science fiction (again). A independent themes come Japan, (the erasing of) memory and travel. A title is taken from either a song period Clouded by Modest Mussorgsky.
Beginning by using Sans Soleil he developed the deep interest around digital technology, which led to his film Level 5 (1996) and IMMEMORY (1998), an interactive multimedia CD-ROM, produced for the Centre Pompidou.
As a film maker, Chris Marker understands himself related to Andrei Tarkovsky and Akira Kurosawa, both of whom he has portrayed inside films. Chris Marker sleep in Paris & doesn't grant interviews.
